Commenting on panel games.
On What’s My Line and Juke Box Jury. “Both of them are conducted by ringmasters of exceptional professional competence. Eamonn Andrews and David Jacobs seem impervious to the temptations which beset many other quiz masters. They reveal no mannerisms, they exercise an easy authority and although they radiate good humour, they never indulge in that deadly sin of broadcasting bonhomie.” -

Producer Neville Wortman: “I used to see the guests first to make sure that they had an interest in music per se. If they didn’t, there was no point in having them on the panel at all. I remember Rupert Davies brought a different slant on it. We were always trying to cater for the largest possible audience and not just a teenage audience. The audience for Thank Your Lucky Stars was mostly teenagers. The BBC has mostly broadcast programmes for the family.”

Well, I ask you. ‘Juke Box Jury’ voted Eden Kane’s ‘Get Lost’ a miss.
Alley Cat, 8 September 1961Eden Kane: “The record got exposure and that’s what mattered. It didn’t matter whether it was voted a hit or a miss as any publicity was good publicity in those days. The girl in Lady Antebellum was on one of those TV star search programmes and didn’t get through, so what do judges know?”
